Less Clutter in Your Headlines for Clarity

Tip:

Instead of trying to squeeze every little detail into your headlines, focus on one key idea and use concise, targeted words.

This gives your marketing content enough context so that readers understand the value of what follows without requiring them to read further – creating a clear entry point and motivation for your content.

In fact, each headline should encourage the readers to read the next chunk. Ideally, getting them to a Call To Action in the ad or sales page.

You might as well be clear from the beginning to not lose your prospects and keep them learning more about your offers.

Notes:

  • First impressions happen quickly.
Your headline will be one of the first things someone sees, and those few words significantly influence whether or not they decide to keep reading. The goal is to capture their attention, so make that headline count!
  • Our brains are constantly filtering information.
We encounter an enormous amount of information every day, and our brains are continuously seeking to identify what really deserves our attention. When a message is clear and focused, it’s easier for someone to see that a message is important and relevant to them.
  • Too much information creates friction.
When people are presented with too much information, making a decision can become more difficult. Selective and concise writing helps to reduce friction and make important stuff pop.

Next Steps:

When creating your marketing content:

  • Identify the key idea and making sure it’s clearly communicated
  • Remove any extra words that confuse from the key goal
  • Insure your content is skimmer proof, for people who only read headlines and buttons
